🌍How Can My Major Make the World a Better Place 🌍

 

Hi, miss and classmates another week! 

From my major, journalism can make the world a better place in many ways. But the most important part for me is that journalism is a profession that is the most essential tool for building an informed society, which allows a real democracy. Information is power and that is why it must be in the hands of professionals with ethics and social vision because we see that the different elites want to control them to influence the way people act or think in order to maintain their dominance. Journalism should not be a business as it happens here in Chile, where we have a duopoly that controls most of the media.

I am still thinking about what area of journalism I would like to pursue because I like too many areas such as culture, politics, international, environment, among others. But what is clear to me is that I want to be someone who highlights women in the media and use my voice from journalism to report on all the systematic oppressions that we women live in this world and tell our diverse realities. We, women, need more space in the media because we are not being represented, and we also need a gender focus in the treatment of information because journalism and the media exercise many forms of violence against women, such as revictimization, the lack of women's stories, and the objectification of the body.

And one of my dreams is also to one day make my own feminist media independent of the big conglomerates💕🌈

To conclude I think that choosing journalism was the best option, I am in love with this major, although studying online has not been easy, I have learned a lot during this year and a half in University.
